Among patients with bronchiectasis, disease severity was higher with a blood eosinophil count less than 50 cells/L or higher than 300 cells/L, according to results published in CHEST.Further, between the two groups, the group with the lower count had greater disease and exacerbation severity, according to researchers.

Mashup Score: 30A core outcome set for bronchiectasis in children and adolescents for use in clinical research: an international consensus study - 4 month(s) ago
Improving the treatment of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis in children and adolescents requires high-quality research with outcomes that meet study objectives and are meaningful for patients and their parents and caregivers. In the absence of systematic reviews or agreement on the health outcomes that should be measured in paediatric bronchiectasis, we established an international, multidisciplinary panel of experts to develop a core outcome set (COS) that incorporates patient and parent perspectives.

Background: Bronchiectasis in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with greater mortality. However, whether suspected bronchiectasis—defined as incidental bronchiectasis on computed tomography (CT) images plus clinical manifestation—is associated with increased mortality in adults with a history of smoking with normal spirometry and preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) is unknown. Objective: To determine the association between suspected bronchiectasis and mortality in adults with normal spirometry, PRISm, and obstructive spirometry. Design: Prospective, observational cohort. Setting: The COPDGene (Genetic Epidemiology of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) study. Participants: 7662 non-Hispanic Black or White adults, aged 45 to 80 years, with 10 or more pack-years of smoking history. Participants who were former and current smokers were stratified into normal spirometry (n = 3277), PRISm (n = 986), and obstructive spirometry (n = 3399). Meas

Low or high eosinophil counts are associated with more severe bronchiectasis and exacerbations. Disease severity tends to be elevated when blood eosinophil count is below 50 cells/μL or exceeds 300 cells/μL, as per findings in CHEST. #Bronchiectasis https://t.co/pA7mMzwCOu https://t.co/kVJoyuf3k8
