Mashup Score: 3Shallow incision (scoring) prior to debulking curettage in Mohs micrographic surgery to prevent epidermal shearing - 5 month(s) ago
Curettage is widely used to debulk and delineate the tumor in Mohs micrographic surgery.1,2 However, in atrophic skin, curettage may cause shearing and separation of the epidermis from the dermis making processing and visualization of the epidermal margin more difficult, often requiring larger margins to visualize epidermis.

In this JAAD International pearl, the authors detail the process involved with using the process of shallow scoring in tandem with curettage when debulking tumors. This process reduces the likelihood of epidermal shearing during #Mohs micrographic surgery. https://t.co/lokBhhHSMs https://t.co/hDauYEdCcq

Mashup Score: 44“Stacked Stitch” for efficient closure of deep cutaneous defects - 5 month(s) ago
Buried intradermal sutures are utilized to approximate wound edges, distribute wound tension away from the epidermis, and close dead space. Inadequate closure of dead space can lead to seroma/hematoma formation, and increase risk of wound dehiscence, infection, and local discomfort. The optimal method of deep suturing is dependent on defect depth, length, and location. For example, a buried horizontal mattress stitch may be more useful in an area of thin dermis compared with a buried vertical mattress stitch in areas of thicker dermis.
