Many of us can recognize colleagues or friends by the sound of their gait. The sound of footfall may also provide valuable information in daily clinical practice, which we illustrate here with 6 different neurologic gait patterns (Video 1). When listening to gait, we recommend paying attention to the clearance of feet during the swing phase. Reduced foot clearance creates a shuffling sound. Mo reover, we recommend to focus on the sound of foot strike; dorsiflexion weakness may result in a flapping sound.
