Mashup Score: 42Left Atrial Dissection Resulting in Asystole: A Rare Complication After Mitral Valve Surgery - 13 hour(s) ago
Left atrial (LA) dissection is characterized by the formation of a false blood-filled cavity through the mitral annular area into the LA wall, with or without communication into the true left atrium.1 The dissection usually forms a large cavity between the endocardium and epicardium of the left atrium. Mitral valve (MV) replacement is the most common cause of LA dissection.1 Other causes of LA dissection generally include other types of cardiac interventions, including surgical and catheter-based interventions such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation and percutaneous coronary intervention.

Mashup Score: 48Multiple Phenotypes of Chronic Coronary Syndromes Identified by ABCDE Stress Echocardiography - 6 day(s) ago
Regional wall motion abnormality is considered a sensitive and specific marker of ischemia during stress echocardiography (SE). However, ischemia is a multifaceted entity associated with either coronary artery disease (CAD) or angina with normal coronary arteries, a distinction difficult to make using a single sign. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic potential of the five-step ABCDE SE protocol for CAD detection.

Prosthetic valvular regurgitation is a potentially serious complication after valve replacement. Insonation using multiple transducer positions and off-axis imaging may be required for a complete prosthetic valvular assessment and localization of paravalvular regurgitation (PVR).1 Acoustic shadowing and reverberations may make detection of significant regurgitation difficult, particularly in the presence of multiple prostheses (e.g., aortic and mitral). Spectral Doppler and quantitative parameters represent important tools for the detection and evaluation of suspected prosthetic regurgitation.

Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) was recently reported to predict mean pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP). However, there is a paucity of data on its accuracy for estimation of PCWP in patients with normal left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF). We sought to examine its accuracy against the invasive gold standard and to compare it with the accuracy of comprehensive echocardiography.
