Mashup Score: 0Is a smartphone application (BlueIce) acceptable and safe for university students who self-harm: an open study - 2 hour(s) ago
Background Many university students self-harm but few receive support. Smartphone apps have been identified as acceptable sources of support for students who self-harm, but the use of supportive self-harm apps is yet to be explored in this population. Objective This study sought to explore the acceptability and safety of a specific app (BlueIce) for university students who self-harm. Methods This was an exploratory, mixed methods study with 15 university students attending university well-being services with self-harming thoughts and/or behaviours. BlueIce was offered alongside the face-to-face support provided by the well-being service. Self-harming thoughts and behaviours, coping self-efficacy, and symptoms of anxiety and depression were measured before and after using BlueIce for 6 weeks. Follow-up interviews were also undertaken to explore how students perceived BlueIce in more depth. Results Following app use, there were statistically significant reductions in symptoms of anxiety

Mashup Score: 0Willingness and preferences for long-acting injectable PrEP among US men who have sex with men: a discrete choice experiment - 6 hour(s) ago
Introduction Cabotegravir long-acting injectable HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (LA-PrEP) was shown to be safe and effective in multiple clinical trials. Increasing uptake and persistence among populations with elevated risk for HIV acquisition, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM), is critical to HIV prevention. Objective This analysis aims to understand potential users’ preferences for LA-PrEP, with audience segmentation. Design Willingness to use and preferences for LA-PrEP were measured in HIV-negative, sexually active MSM in the 2020 American Men’s Internet Survey. Respondents answered a discrete choice experiment with paired profiles of hypothetical LA-PrEP characteristics with an opt-out option (no LA-PrEP). Conditional and mixed logit models were run; the final model was a dummy-coded mixed logit that interacted with the opt-out. Setting US national online sample. Results Among 2506 MSM respondents, most (75%) indicated a willingness to use LA-PrEP versus daily oral P

Objective Extending collaborative care, a model integrating mental health services into primary care, to include community-based organisations (CBOs) may improve older patient health outcomes by increasing access to care and addressing patients’ social needs; however, little is known about how CBOs contribute to such partnered depression care. We explored how six primary care clinic and CBO partnerships came together to provide late-life depression care through the Care Partners funded in 2014. Design 43 key informant interviews and 15 focus groups were conducted with care managers, administrators and primary care providers partnering to provide late-life depression care. Data were coded and analysed iteratively using qualitative thematic analysis. Setting Six primary care clinic–CBO sites across California. Participants Care managers, administrators and primary care providers participated in this study. Results Three unique contributions of CBOs to depression care in these clinic–CBO

Objectives The objective of this study was to explore how people living with obesity who use obesity services perceive healthcare professionals’ (HCPs) online representation of the disease on social media. By exploring their perspective, we aimed to develop a framework to inform good practice around social media use for HCPs. Design This was a qualitative study using a phenomenological framework. Following in-depth semi-structured interviews, analysis was undertaken to identify superordinate themes relating to how HCPs portray living with obesity online. Setting Patient advocacy organisation (The Irish Coalition for People Living with Obesity) and three clinical sites offering obesity treatment in Ireland. Participants 15 adult participants comprising of 12 women and 3 men who use social media and are living with obesity and who use obesity services. Results Three key themes of how people living with obesity who use obesity services perceive HCP’s online representation of the disease.

Objectives The study aimed to explore the experiences and perceptions of healthcare providers (HCPs) regarding the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges of Eritrean refugee women in Ethiopia. Design A qualitative exploratory design with the key informant approach. Setting and participants The study was conducted in the Afar regional state, North East, Ethiopia. The study participants were HCP responsible for providing SRH care for refugee women. Results Eritrean refugee women have worse health outcomes than the host population. The SRH needs were found to be hindered at multiple layers of socioecological model (SEM). High turnover and shortage of HCP, restrictive laws, language issues, cultural inconsistencies and gender inequalities were among the main barriers reported. Complex multistructural factors are needed to improve SRH needs of Eritrean refugee women. Conclusions A complex set of issues spanning individual needs, social norms, community resources, healthcare limitat

Objective Limited research has been conducted on the correlation between apparent temperature and acute myocardial infarction (AMI), as well as the potential impact of air pollutants in modifying this relationship. The objective of this study is to investigate the lagged effect of apparent temperature on AMI and assess the effect modification of environmental pollutants on this association. Design A time-series study. Setting and participants The data for this study were obtained from the Academy of Medical Data Science at Chongqing Medical University, covering daily hospitalisations for AMI between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2016. Meteorological and air pollutant data were provided by China’s National Meteorological Information Centre. Outcome measures We used a combined approach of quasi-Poisson generalised linear model and distributed lag non-linear model to thoroughly analyse the relationships. Additionally, we employed a generalised additive model to investigate the interactio

Objectives The mental health of veterinary and other animal health professionals is significantly impacted by the psychological stressors they encounter, such as euthanasia, witnessing animal suffering and moral distress. Moral distress, initially identified in nursing, arises when individuals are aware of the right action but are hindered by institutional constraints. We aimed to review existing research on moral distress scales among animal care workers by focusing on the identification and psychometric validity of its measurement. Design Two-step systematic review. First, we identified all moral distress scales used in animal care research in the eligible original studies. Second, we evaluated their psychometric validity, emphasising content validity, which is a critical aspect of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). This evaluation adhered to the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN). The results were reported according to the
