Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is a rare age-associated myopathy that generally affects people over the age of 45 years [1]. The incidence and prevalence of IBM is increasing, coincident with the increasing age of the global population. However, prevalence is likely underestimated, due in part to the fact that diagnosis currently relies heavily upon myopathologic criteria. There are no specific therapies that modify the disease course, leaving patients and clinicians with supportive treatment of this disabling disorder.
