Mashup Score: 3A Pilot Study of CT Simulator Downtime at an African Cancer Conference: Survey Results from AORTIC 2023 - 9 day(s) ago
CT simulation is required for centers performing 3D conformal radiotherapy and intensity modulated radiation therapy. Therefore, CT simulator downtime is likely to lead to delays in patient care. We sought to characterize CT simulator downtime within the African context.

This white paper examines the potential of pioneering technologies and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven solutions in advancing clinical trials involving radiotherapy. As the field of radiotherapy evolves, the integration of cutting-edge approaches such as radiopharmaceutical dosimetry, FLASH radiotherapy, image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and AI promises to improve treatment planning, patient care, and outcomes. Additionally, recent advancements in quantum science, linear energy transfer/relative biological effect (LET/RBE), and the combination of radiotherapy and immunotherapy create new avenues for innovation in clinical trials.

The optimal management of patients with de novo clinical stage IIA/B (CSIIA/B) or relapsed CSIIA/B (Rel-CSIIA/B) seminoma remains debated because of a lack of randomized evidence. Here, we sought to evaluate outcomes after radiation therapy and chemotherapy in this setting.

: Optimal treatment strategies for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with oligoprogression after first-line systemic therapy (FLST) remain undefined. We aimed to determine if maintaining [i.e., continuing] FLST plus radiotherapy for oligoprogressive lesions (m-FLST + RT) would result in progression-free survival (PFS) equal to or greater than that of second-line systemic therapy (s-SLST), either alone or with radiotherapy (s-SLST + RT).

Osteoradionecrosis of the jaw (ORNJ) is a severe iatrogenic disease characterized by bone death after radiation therapy (RT) to the head and neck. With over 9 published definitions and at least 16 classification systems, the true incidence and severity of ORNJ are obscured by lack of a standard for disease definition and severity assessment, leading to inaccurate estimation of incidence, reporting ambiguity, and likely under-diagnosis worldwide. This study aimed to achieve consensus on an explicit definition and phenotype of ORNJ and related precursor states through data standardization to facilitate effective diagnosis, monitoring, and multidisciplinary management of ORNJ.

Mashup Score: 6Evidence of Alveolar Macrophage Metabolic Shift Following Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy -Induced Lung Fibrosis in Mice - 2 month(s) ago
Radiation-induced pneumopathy is the main dose-limiting factor in cases of chest radiation therapy. Macrophage infiltration is frequently observed in irradiated lung tissues and may participate in lung damage development. Radiation-induced lung fibrosis can be reproduced in rodent models using whole thorax irradiation but suffers from limits concerning the role played by unexposed lung volumes in damage development.
