outpatient endoscopy unit during 4 nonconsecutive months were included in the data analysis. Patients who did not attend their appointment, or canceled with 48 hours of their appointment were considered nonattendees. Demographic, health, and prior visit behavior data was collected and the groups compared. Results: 1780 patients attended 2331 visits in the study period. Comparing the attendee versus non-attendees, there were significant differences in mean age, prior absenteeism, prior cancelations, and total number of hospital visits. No significant differences were seen between groups in winter versus non-winter months, the day of the week, sex distribution, type of procedure booked, or whether the referral was from specialist clinic or direct to procedure. The visit cancelation proportion (calculated excluding current visit) was substantially higher in the absentee group (P<0.0001). A predictive model was developed and compared to current booking as well as a straight overbooking of

ta-analysis of all RCTs to assess the impact of AI compared with other endoscopic interventions aimed at increasing ADR such as distal attachment devices, dye-based/virtual chromoendoscopy, water-based techniques, and balloon-assisted devices. Methods: A comprehensive literature search of PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Cochrane was performed through May 6, 2022, to include RCTs comparing ADR for any endoscopic intervention mentioned above. Network meta-analysis was conducted using a frequentist approach and random effects model. Relative risk (RR) and 95% CI were calculated for proportional outcome. Results: A total of 94 RCTs with 61,172 patients (mean age 59.1±5.2 y, females 45.8%) and 20 discrete study interventions were included. Network meta-analysis demonstrated significantly improved ADR for AI compared with autofluorescence imaging (RR: 1.33, CI: 1.06 to 1.66), dye-based chromoendoscopy (RR: 1.22, CI: 1.06 to 1.40), endocap (RR: 1.32, CI: 1.17 to 1.50), endocuff (RR: 1.19, CI: 1.0

for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s colitis. Nonetheless, interval cancer defined as CRC detected within the appropriate surveillance interval might still occur despite following guideline recommendations. Even though there is limited data on risk factors associated with interval CRC in IBD, patient and disease-associated factors and technical aspects of the surveillance might play a role. This review aims to provide information on the epidemiology of interval CRC in IBD, the factors that might be associated with its occurrence, and the challenges of CRC screening and dysplasia management in patients with IBD….

Mashup Score: 0Reflux Symptoms Increase Following Sleeve Gastrectomy... : Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology - 4 month(s) ago
hods: Patients with obesity evaluated for bariatric surgery over a 15-month period were prospectively followed with validated symptom questionnaires (GERDQ, dominant symptom index: product of symptom frequency and intensity from 5-point Likert scores) administered before and after SG and RYGB. Esophageal testing included high-resolution manometry in all patients, and ambulatory reflux monitoring off therapy in those with abnormal GERDQ or prior reflux history. Univariate comparisons and multivariable analysis were performed to determine if preoperative factors predicted postoperative reflux symptoms. Results: Sixty-four patients (median age 49.0 years, 84% female, median BMI 46.5 kg/m2) fulfilled inclusion criteria and underwent follow-up assessment 4.4 years after bariatric surgery. Baseline GERDQ and dominant symptom index for heartburn were significantly higher in RYGB patients (P≤0.04). Despite this, median GERDQ increased by 2 (0.0 to 4.8) following SG and decreased by 0.5 (−1.0 t
