Mashup Score: 7The National Psychiatric Morbidity Survey of Pakistan (2022): Prevalence, socio-demographic and disability correlates - 5 month(s) ago
Background National psychiatric morbidity surveys have shown a wide range of prevalence of psychiatric disorders across different countries. Pakistan with its sociocultural and ethnic diversity, has the fifth largest population in the world. There was no prior high-quality nationally representative data on the prevalence of psychiatric disorders and their socio-demographic correlates for Pakistan. To fill this gap in the planning of mental health services, the Pakistan Psychiatric Society conducted the National Psychiatric Morbidity Survey (NPMS) of Pakistan, in the years 2019-2022. Aim To estimate the prevalence and socio-demographic correlates of psychiatric morbidity in a representative sample of Pakistan. Methods The cross-sectional NPMS collected data from the four provinces of Pakistan. After selection through a three-stage, stratified, random cluster sampling technique we interviewed 17,773 adults above the age of 18. We used the MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MI

Mashup Score: 17Offline: What have we done to medical students? - 8 month(s) ago
“We are not cherished.” Those words still outrage me 20 years on. I was part of a roadshow on medical professionalism touring universities in England to discuss Doctors in Society, a report from the Royal College of Physicians. Baroness Julia Cumberlege chaired the working party and I was her scribe. Our goal was to advance a new conception of medical professionalism, one based less on authority and more on partnership. We were passionate about what medicine was and what it could achieve—for patients and for society.

Mashup Score: 99Offline: The moral clarity of WHO's Director-General - 1 year(s) ago
Amid the claims and counterclaims about war crimes in Gaza and Israel, one voice has stood out as a beacon of moral clarity—that of WHO’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The day after the Oct 7, 2023 terror attacks on Israel, recognising that the Israeli Government would strike back, he presciently called on X, formerly Twitter, “for urgent steps to: protect and safeguard civilians, health workers and health facilities”. By Oct 10, as Israel escalated attacks against Hamas, with widespread killing of civilians, he demanded “access to health and humanitarian assistance” and “an end to the hostilities that are causing untold suffering”.
