Microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. Their prevalence, persistence, and increasing industrial production have led to questions about their long-term impact on human and animal health. This narrative review describes the effects of MNPs on oxidative stress, inflammation, and aging. Exposure to MNPs leads to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) across multiple experimental models, including cell lines, organoids, and animal systems. ROS can cause damage to cellular macromolecules such as DNA, proteins, and lipids. Direct interaction between MNPs and immune cells or an indirect result of oxidative stress-mediated cellular damage may lead to increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines throughout different MNP-exposure conditions. Background: Cognitive impairment (CI) is a common mental health disorder among older adults, and dietary patterns have an impact on cognitive function. However, no systematic researches have constructed anti-inflammatory diet (AID) and protein-enriched diet (PED) to explore their association with CI among older adults in China. Methods: The data used in this study were obtained from the 2018 waves of the China Longitudinal Health and Longevity Survey (CLHLS). We construct AID, PED, and calculate scores for CI. We use binary logistic regression to explore the relationship between them, and use restrictive cubic splines to determine whether the relationships are non-linear. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were used to demonstrate the robustness of the results. Results: A total of 8692 participants (mean age is 83.53 years) were included in the analysis. Background/Objectives: Antibody light chains form amyloid fibrils that lead to progressive tissue damage in amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis. The properties of each patient’s unique light chain appear to determine its propensity to form amyloid. One factor is N-glycosylation, which is more frequent in amyloid-associated light chains than in light chains from the normal immune repertoire. However, the mechanisms underlying this association are unknown. Here, we investigate the frequency and position within the light chain sequence of the N-glycosylation sequence motif, or sequon. Methods: Monoclonal light chains from AL amyloidosis and multiple myeloma were identified from the AL-Base repository. Polyclonal light chains were obtained from the Observed Antibody Space resource. Background/Objectives: This retrospective study evaluates outcomes of 66 patients who underwent reirradiation (re-RT) with proton beam therapy (PBT) for recurrent non-small cell lung cancer. Methods: Toxicity was scored via the CTCAE v5.0, and outcomes estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method, with associations evaluated via Cox proportional hazards and logistic regression analyses. Results: Patients were treated to a median re-RT prescription of 66 Gy/33 fxs (BED10 = 79 Gy; IQR: 71–84 Gy) at an interval of 1.4 years from prior RT. Half (50%) received concurrent chemotherapy. At 14 months follow-up, the median OS and PFS were 5 months (95%CI: 13–17) and 12.5 months (95%CI: 10–15), respectively. On multivariable analysis, a higher RT dose (BED10 > 70 Gy) [HR0.37; 95%CI: 0.20–0.68, p = 0.001] and concurrent chemotherapy (HR0.48; 95%CI: 0.28–0.81, p = 0.007) were associated with improved PFS, while treatment site overlap was adversely associated (HR1.78; 95%CI: 1.05–3.02, p = 0.031). Salivary gland tumors are neoplasms affecting the major and minor salivary glands of the oral cavity. Their complex pathological appearance and overlapping morphological features between subtypes, pose major challenges in the identification, classification, and staging of the tumor. Recently developed techniques of three-dimensional culture and organotypic modelling provide useful platforms for the clinical and biological characterization of these malignancies. Additionally, new advances in genetic and molecular screenings allow precise diagnosis and monitoring of tumor progression. Finally, novel therapeutic tools with increased efficiency and accuracy are emerging. In this review, we summarize the most common salivary gland neoplasms and provide an overview of the state-of-the-art tools to model, diagnose, and treat salivary gland tumors.

Background: Anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) has emerged as a significant issue in autoimmune diseases over recent decades. Its hallmark feature is thromboembolic events, potentially affecting any vascularized area including the microcirculation of the inner ear. Since the first case report of APS-related audiovestibular dysfunction described in 1993, numerous reports have explored the association between APS-related antibodies and audiovestibular dysfunction. These studies indicate a higher prevalence of APS-related antibodies in patients with sensorineural hearing loss compared to healthy controls. Since CMV is an opportunistic pathogen that occurs as a result of impaired pathogen-specific immunity, laboratory assays that measure CMV-specific immune responses may be useful in assisting clinicians in its management. Background: Aortic valve repair is currently the only effective treatment for calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS), as no pharmacological therapies exist to prevent or slow its progression. Recent promising results showed that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) attenuates the calcification of aortic valve interstitial cells. Therefore, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the effect of GLP-1 receptor agonism (GLP-1Ra) on the risk of CAVS. Methods: The inverse variance weighted (IVW) method was used to obtain the primary causal inference, and several sensitivity analyses, including MR-Egger, were performed to assess the robustness of the results.
