Somedays it feels like we are living in a postscientific world, where no one is asking the important but perhaps inconvenient questions—and then a paper like this comes along. This study by Dallal et al1 used a health system–wide cost accounting system to describe differences in direct disposable costs for 98 surgeons across 14 hospitals performing nearly 15,000 cholecystectomies. The study has 3 primary findings. First, the use of robotic cholecystectomy increased rapidly from 0.1% in 2017 to 26% in 2024.
