Mashup Score: 9
A 71-year-old man presented with a left lacrimal caruncle mass observed 1 week prior. The mass measured 4.0 × 3.0 mm, and presented as a red nodule with well-defined borders (A). Excisional biopsy revealed a cystic lesion (B). The cyst wall has 2 molecular layers in the epithelium: columnar inner and squamous outer (C). The cyst wall adjoined lacrimal gland tissue (D). The diagnosis is consistent with ductal cysts of the accessory lacrimal glands. Accessory lacrimal gland duct cysts in the lacrimal caruncle are exceedingly rare.

Mashup Score: 7Light inhibits lens-induced myopia through an intensity-dependent dopaminergic mechanism - 2 day(s) ago
Bright light exposure has been postulated to underly the ability of time spent outdoors to prevent the development of myopia in humans. In support of this, bright light inhibits the development of form-deprivation myopia (FDM) in all species studied. While lens-induced myopia (LIM) is also inhibited by bright light in most species, it remains unclear whether this is brought about in an intensity-dependent manner and whether dopamine (DA) plays the same critical role in this paradigm as is seen in FDM.

Mashup Score: 14Clinical Outcomes in Neovascular Age-related Macular Degeneration with Aflibercept 8 mg in the Phase II CANDELA Study - 2 day(s) ago
Aflibercept 8 mg has demonstrated comparable improvements in anatomic and functional outcomes with extended duration of effect and no new safety signal compared with aflibercept 2 mg in pivotal trials for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema.1–3 In the phase II, 44-week CANDELA trial, patients with treatment-naive nAMD received 3 monthly doses of aflibercept 8 mg or 2 mg followed by doses at weeks 20 and 32 and could qualify for additional dosing per study protocol.

Mashup Score: 2Pediatric Eye-Related Emergency Department Visits and Pediatric Eye Provider Location and Density - 2 day(s) ago
There is a nationwide shortage of pediatric eye specialists. Inadequate or inaccessible subspecialty eye care may lead parents to bring their children to the emergency department (ED) to address eye problems which could have been handled at a clinic visit. This study aimed to determine the association between childhood eye-related ED visits and the geographic location and density of pediatric eye specialists in California.
